Back in July their was an article in the Seattle Times about the confirmation of a wolf pack in the Cle Elum area in the Teanaway River basin.  DNA samples were taken by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and they confirmed they had found a female wolf that had recently given birth to pups.  It was the first documentation of a wolf pack in Kittitas County since they were exterminated in the first half of the 20th Century.  The article had quotes that showed signs of excitement from a biologist from Fish and Wildlife, but also from a representative from Washington Cattlemen’s Association which wondered how the state would manage the wolves.

Well, a new article came out last week that the Washington Cattlemen’s Association in conjunction with the Hunter Heritage Council have petitioned for the wolves to be removed from the Washington State endangered species protections.  So the debate has begun, and it looks like the honeymoon for the Cle Elum wolf pack may be coming to an end.
