If you live in and around Roslyn, you may be aware of some of the fun summertime events happening in and around the city. Next month, Suncadia Resort will be hosting the much anticipated Suncadia Cycling Festival the weekend of Friday June 27th, one long weekend, with 3 amazing rides! This cycling event is the perfect mix of pavement, dirt and gravel cycling, and a wonderful way to explore the Suncadia grounds. The festivities will begin Friday evening with a mountain bike course, followed by a Saturday morning road bike ride, and a Sunday morning gravel ride. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore Suncadia by bike!
Another upcoming event to put on your calendar is the 8 hour Cyclocross mountain bike race on Saturday July 26th in Roslyn. This new event called MFG Nine2Five presented by BMC is going to office catergories for solo riders, as well as teams of 2-3 participants. Sign-up for this all day event is available until Monday July 21st, and this event is limited to 500 participants, so secure your spot to race today! As an added bonus, if you register for the event before June 1st you will be entered in a raffle to win 2 of the newly released Trail Fox series of bicycle. Hope to see you there!
The Suncadia Resort started 2013 hot with a spike in real estate sales. Suncadia Real Estate Sales Company reached more than $27 million in the first half of 2013, and sales are predicted to continue rising throughout the remainder of the year, and 2nd homes in the PNW continue to rise according to the Wall Street Journal.

The growth came after an impressive 2012, when Suncadia had more than $42 million in sales, the resort’s best year since 2008. The resort has sold mroe than 1,300 homes and condos since properties went on the market in 2003, and the sales success of 2012 almost doubled that of 2011 sales. Come celebrate the holiday festivities this season, and join the Roslyn Chamber of Commerce and Cle Elum community for the annual Parade of Lights! Upper Kittitas County is celebrating the Merry Holidays next Friday and Saturday with the Hospice Friends “Tree of Love” lighting ceremony. Afterwards, take your little ones to the Children’s Christmas Party Saturday at the Cle Elum Eagles Center, and get everyone into the Christmas spirit.

The Northwestern Improvement Company Building is located on a busy corner in the historic center of Roslyn’s happening commercial district. It’s the largest building in Roslyn, and also the sole remaining structure in the city associated with the Roslyn Coal Field. Built in 1889 with locally produced bricks, the original round-arched storefront was remodeled around 1916, to the cast iron and glass structure that stands today.

The Lane House was originally listed in the National Register of Historic Places Inventory as the “Silvia House” and was built by City Councilor Joseph Lane in 1895. According to the Historic Structure Report, the house is currently the only full scale example of high-style architecture in town. The home is vacant, and located at 103 E. Idaho Ave, between 1st and 2nd street, and is noted as one of the most intact residences in Roslyn, dating back to early settlement times. Washington State Senator Scott White, 41 years old, tragically died in his hotel room just outside Roslyn. His body was found by the Suncadia housekeepers when he failed to check out. The cause of White’s death is still a mystery. Click the link to read more details about the Senator’s passing.
